How to Prepare for Your First Visit to the Mandir

Whether you're visiting a Hindu temple for the very first time or returning after many years, a little preparation goes a long way toward making the experience meaningful. Here's everything you need to know before your first darshan with us.

Dress modestly and comfortably — you will be asked to remove your footwear before entering the main hall, so shoes that slip off easily are a good idea. Many devotees choose to wear traditional attire, but this is not required; simple, respectful clothing is perfectly welcome.

Try to arrive a few minutes before one of our aarti timings (see our daily schedule on the homepage). Aarti is a beautiful multi-sensory ritual involving lamps, bells, and chanting, and it's a wonderful way to experience the temple's atmosphere fully.

Once inside, you may offer flowers, fruit, or a small monetary donation at the donation box near the sanctum — though offerings are never required to receive blessings. After the priest performs aarti, devotees typically pass their hands over the flame and then over their own head, a gesture of receiving light and warmth from the divine.

Photography is welcome in the courtyard, but we ask that you refrain from photographing the inner sanctum during active worship out of respect for those in prayer. Our volunteers, recognizable by their saffron badges, are always happy to answer questions or guide first-time visitors.

Above all, come as you are. The mandir is a space for everyone seeking a moment of peace, reflection, or connection — no prior knowledge of rituals is necessary.
